If you like hiking or just want an easy walk, the options on Camano Island are really awesome. From views of the Olympics to calm beach walks to woodsy hikes, there all on the island. Camino Ridge Forest Loop is probably the most challenging hike on Camano but it’s 5 miles of beauty.
When hiking to Cranberry Lake amazing bird sightings have been reported such as Great Blue Herons, Belted Kingfishers, Cedar Waxwings, and Pileated Woodpeckers. Wouldn’t that make your day? Also, if you’re there at the right time of year there will be berries to snitch along the path; something your kids will love.
Many of the trails are children-friendly so taking the kids will be fun for all. The Iverson Spit trail is perfect for younger children, where they can spy beach creatures, and taking a side trip on the Hobbit Trail makes it an even better adventure.
Holly and Bluff Loop is perfect for your dogs as there are many interconnecting trails and lots of diversity. Greg reported he and his dog enjoyed: “Great view, beach, pond, dense forest, open understory, field, wildflowers, deer, bunnies, bog, apple trees, tide swings- it has it all”.

You’ll find most of the hikes are dog-friendly but on some of the trails, they must be on a leash. On English Boom Trail dogs can run free and enjoy the shallow waters while you enjoy the view.
Do you like trail running? Try it on Holly and Bluff Loop trail. Do you want a relaxing walk? Try Marine Loop Trail in Cama Beach Historical State Park. This property was converted from private ownership to state land without cutting down any trees but was left natural with 15 miles of trails to choose from.
And, if you’re looking for views on your hike check out English Boom Trail where you can enjoy the beauty of Three fingers and Pilchuck Mountains. Also, looking towards the northeast, Mt. Baker and Twin Sisters are part of that beautiful scenery. From Camano Island State Park the view across to Whidbey Island and the Olympics is outstanding.
After all that hiking you’ll want to find some great places to fill up your “tank” and your tummy. Stop by Camano Island Coffee Roasters at the “Y” for organic and Fair Trade delicious coffee choices. You’ll find food and drink to quench your thirst at Rockaway Bar and Grill with a cozy inside atmosphere for the cooler weather and patio dining for warm days. Or try the Crow’s Nest with specials such as smoked oysters and it’s kid-friendly where they can eat free on Wednesdays after 4 PM. Fun!
