The Great Northwest Glass Hunt is an annual event that is often referred to as the greatest treasure hunt in the pacific northwest. The event is held each February, so even though the 2021 Hunt has ended, you have plenty of time to start planning for the 2022 quest!

northwest glass huntThe Glass Hunting event is put on by the Camano Island Chamber of Commerce and the event itself is held in both Stanwood as well as Camano Island. Whether you’ve attended the event in the past (the 2021 hunt was the 12th year of questing!) or are looking for a new fun and unique experience on Camano Island, The Great Northwest Glass Hunt is a great community event that can be fun for those of all ages.

The Hunt spans across both Stanwood and Camano Island and multiple businesses throughout the area participate. In order to participate you simply have to grab your binoculars and search the businesses and surrounding areas for clues. The clues are hidden in plastic balls throughout the community and once found, can be exchanged for a limited-edition hand-blown glass ball, beautifully crafted by world-renowned glass artists Marcus and Mark Ellinger.

The 2021 Quest had more than 400 hidden clues, both in participating businesses as well as parks. For those hunting inside businesses, all hidden clues will be visible and will not require any merchandise to be moved, so remember to respect the shop owners and look with your eyes and not your hands. For those who prefer to search outdoors, multiple clues are hidden throughout the local parks, and you can even check the events website or app for daily updates to help you locate the clues that have yet to be found.

Spanning for 10 days, you can enjoy the community event year after year, however, it is important to remember that only one clue can be found per person in order to allow for as many people as possible to enjoy the fun and add a new glass piece of art to their own personal treasure box. While the 2021 event was unable to provide Kids Quests due to COVID and social distancing guidelines, we are hopeful to see Kid Quests return for the 2022 event! You can find a full list of frequently asked questions, information on donating, as well as event dates and more by visiting The Great Northwest Glass Hunt’s website. Happy hunting!
