There is one golf course on Camano Island, the Camaloch Golf Course located at 326 Northeast Camano Dr. There touted as some of the best greens in the Northwest, frequently mowed and rolled and nestled in Puget Sound’s Sun Belt. This location receives about half the annual rainfall of nearby courses and it stays much cooler during the hot summer months with the Marine air movement in and around Camano Island. The Camalach Golf Course is nestled towards the northern end of the island just off of N. East Camano Dr. minutes from Stanwood and about 20 minutes from the freeway. There are several homes surrounding the golf course and a few on Smith Lake, just next-door.
About the course
The course began in 1967 promoted as an easy commute from the Seattle and Everett area for a weekend getaway. There were originally 466 lots with water service, two swimming pools, and a 9-acre lake for fishing. In the late 60s, the membership decided to build a nine-hole golf course. The course opened in 1972 and was well received for golfers in the area. In the late 1980s, membership acquired additional acreage to build a second nine holes designed by Bill Overdorf, which opened in 1991. Since then, there’s been several rebuilding and redesigning maintaining original greens and blending to conform to the natural surroundings. Today, membership includes Junior golf, instructions and courses, and of course, some of the best golfing in the Puget Sound area.
Rockaway Bar and Grill is also on-site, which was voted the best place to eat on Camano Island several years in a row. They feature fantastic appetizers, delicious fish tacos and sweet potato fries, beautiful salads, burgers, sandwiches, and some fancy cocktails.
Homes
Being part of the Camaloch homeowners association means access to swimming pools, chalet rentals, and more but also being part of the community news and events. Homeowner association fees are approximately $100 per month, which covers common area maintenance, clubhouse privileges, swimming pool, and the golf course.
As of the publishing of this post, properties start at about $150,000 for lots and homes run upwards of $600,000 with the average being around $420,000. Homes with golf course views run between $380,000 and $620,000 on average. There are still some new construction properties as well.
Schools
Residents of Camaloch are part of the Stanwood public school district and are served by the at the lady elementary school, Stanwood high school and the Port Susan middle school.
