The Elger Bay elementary school in the Stanwood and Camano Island school district was named one of the top Schools of Distinction award winners. The Center for Educational Effectiveness named its 2018 School of Distinction award winners to school showing the most improvement over a five-year period in reading and math. They also calculated graduation rates for high schools. Across Washington state, 91 schools were named award winners including our own Elger Bay elementary school.
Elger Bay elementary school has won the award four times over the last five years.
The Center for Educational Effectiveness has been helping improve schools for over 12 years. This School of Distinction award honors the highest improving Washington state schools, staff, and their leaders for improved performance for all students. They look at sustained performance in English language arts, and mathematics at both elementary and middle school levels and four-year and five-year adjusted Cohort Graduation Rates at the high school level.
Elger Bay has been consistently ranked higher and higher every year starting from 2014. The school has received anywhere from a 10% to 12% improvement per year.
Elger Bay and Utsalady Elementary school receive top ratings from greatschools.org. The Stanwood Camano school district enrolls over 4500 students grades pre-K through 12th grade in 11 different schools.

Utsalady Elementary School is located at 608 Arrowhead Rd. on the southern end of Camano Island where Elger Bay elementary school, located at 1810 Elger Bay Rd., is located on the north end.
Preschools
Camano Island also has two preschools on the island itself, the Camano Lutheran preschool and kindergarten located at 850 Heichel Rd., which is on the north end and the Camano Chapel preschool located at 867 Southwest Camano Dr. towards the south end.
